CTL Dental Implants
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are effectively titanium pegs that are placed within the jaw bone. The bone is able to grow around the peg and this can then be used to place either a crown, bridge or a denture that is much more retentive than relying on the soft tissues alone.
Where appropriate, implants are often considered the gold standard for tooth replacement. They bond with healthy bone and provide permanent support for dental crowns and dentures. Dental implants look and feel like natural teeth and can last a lifetime.
Why choose dental implants?
With dental implants, healthy teeth are not compromised. Both bridges and dentures can lead to further damage to natural teeth, either by:
• Decay or gum disease due to plaque accumulation
• Tooth mobility and bone loss due to excessive forces acting on teeth
• Actual tooth tissue loss during preparation for the prosthesis
Why replace missing teeth?
Losing one or more of your teeth creates a gap in your smile, could affects your ability to chew properly, and can alter your diet, nutrition and speech.
Tooth loss causes bone loss
When a tooth is lost, the jawbone beneath it shrinks from lack of stimulation. Not only does losing teeth affect your smile, it also changes the shape of your face causing you to look prematurely aged.
A missing tooth can be replaced by a dental implant without altering the healthy adjacent teeth. Once the implant is placed, a post (or abutment) is attached providing support for your final crown.
